Seamless Travel: From Rome to the Sea

Getting from Rome to the southern coast takes an hour by the high-speed train (you can choose Frecciarossa or Italo), and this is our best suggestion. From there (the central station of Naples) we can pick you up with our car or minivan to Sorrento (here the prices). The journey is around one hour (traffic is not included). For this other reason, we really suggest departing from Rome very early (6 or 7 am would be perfect). Arriving in Naples early, you wouldn’t find too much traffic along the way.

  • Stress-Free Logistics: We organize the transportation from Naples Central Station to Sorrento
  • Arrive Ready to Sail: By handling the driving, we ensure you arrive at the harbor completely refreshed and ready to step straight onto the boat

Rome to Amalfi Coast Day Trip: Setting Sail

Sorrento is the undisputed gateway to the region. Perched on cliffs overlooking the Bay of Naples, it serves as the perfect launchpad for your day at sea. Once you arrive at our Sorrento departure point, the real magic begins. Depending on your travel style, you can choose between two spectacular boat tour options:

Option 1: The Amalfi Coast Boat Tour

Experience the dramatic beauty of Italy’s most famous coastline from the best possible vantage point: the water.

  • Panoramic Views: Marvel at the colorful, terraced villages of the Amalfi Coast cascading down the mountainside into the sea
  • Explore on Foot: Enjoy dedicated free time to wander the narrow, bougainvillea-draped streets of Positano and the historic center of Amalfi
  • Swim and Snorkel: Drop anchor in secluded coves to dive into the Mediterranean, far away from the crowded public beaches.

Option 2: The Classic Capri Boat Tour

Escape to the glamorous island of Capri, a favorite retreat since the days of the Roman Emperors and a jewel of the Mediterranean.

  • Island Circumnavigation: Cruise around the rugged perimeter of the island, discovering hidden sea caves and grottos along the way
  • The Faraglioni Rocks: Experience the unforgettable thrill of sailing directly through the arch of Capri’s iconic, towering rock formations
  • Island Exploration: Dock at Marina Grande with ample time to head up to the famous Piazzetta, shop in high-end boutiques, or ride the chairlift up Mount Solaro

The best times are spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October). The weather is pleasant, the flowers are in bloom, and there are fewer crowds than in the peak summer months of July and August, when the region can become very crowded and expensive.

  • 2 nights/3 days is the minimum to have a touch of the Amalfi Coast
  • 3-5 days is recommended to see the main sights: Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, Ravello, and Positano. You can actually check one of our best boat tours to get by sea to one of these wonderful destinations

  • By Bus (cheapest)
  • By ferries/hydrofoils (the best option to enjoy the coast by the seaside too)
  • By private transfer (most expensive)

Napoli Capodichino Airport is the closest and most convenient, from there you can reach the Amalfi Coast by:

  • Private transfer to Sorrento
  • Private transfer to Positano
  • Train: Circumvesuviana is the straight train line from Naples to Sorrento
  • Ferries/hydrofoils you can catch from Molo Beverello in Naples
