Finding the optimal window to charter a yacht along the Amalfi Coast comes down to balancing three key factors: sea temperatures, anchorage availability, and overall crowd density. While the Mediterranean season stretches from spring to autumn, the experience on the water shifts significantly across each month. Late May: The Peaceful Spring Escape
The last two weeks of May mark the official opening of the luxury charter season.
- The Vibe: The coastline is lush and green, with temperatures hovering around a comfortable 22°C to 24°C
- The Advantage: Securing prime moorings off Capri or Positano is far easier than in mid-summer. Charter fees are generally lower before peak rates kick in
- The Catch: The Mediterranean Sea is still warming up (~19°C), making swimming a bit brisk for some

June: The Sweet Spot
June is widely regarded as one of the best overall months for cruising the coast.
- The Vibe: Long, sun-filled days with steady, reliable sea breezes ideal for sailing. Coastal towns like Positano, Amalfi and Ravello are bustling without feeling completely overwhelmed
- The Advantage: The water temperature rises to a comfortable 23°C, ideal for water sports, snorkeling, and tenders
- The Catch: Demand rises quickly toward the end of the month, requiring early booking for top-tier vessels and marina berths

Early July: Summer Peak Energy
The first two weeks of July deliver the iconic, high-energy Mediterranean summer experience.
- The Vibe: Hot, sunny days (often hitting 30°C/86°F) and warm, balmy nights. Beach clubs are in full swing
- The Advantage: Perfect water conditions (~25°C) for swimming in secluded coves
- The Catch: High-season charter rates apply, popular anchorages fill up fast by mid-day, and traffic on land is heavy if you go ashore.

September: The Connoisseur’s Pick
For seasoned charterers, September is frequently cited as the single best month of the year.
- The Vibe: The summer rush recedes, creating a far more relaxed atmosphere across the islands and port towns.
- The Advantage: The sea retains all the heat absorbed over July and August (~25°C), offering the warmest swimming of the year alongside softer, golden light for photography.
- The Catch: Days start getting slightly shorter, and late September can occasionally bring brief afternoon rain showers as autumn approaches.

Best Time to Charter a Yacht on the Amalfi Coast: Summary Recommendation

Where are the best pick-up points?
Travelers might ask if they can be picked up directly from their hotel. This depends on whether your hotel has a private pier (like Il San Pietro). Most tours depart from the main dock in Sorrento (where we are) or Positano, Amalfi, Capri etc (Ps we can also pick you up from the last mentioned docks). For a private tour we are at your disposal.
Can we stop for lunch at a seaside restaurant?
This is a highlight for many. Popular spots like Restaurant Cantuccio in Nerano are only accessible (or best reached) by boat. Captains will usually drop you off and wait, but you must book these restaurants weeks in advance. This is a high recommendation if you really desire to enjoy a lunch by the seaside. We can make the reservation for you when you book the boat tour with us, just ask and we will make it happen.
